Client Computing

Client Technology Solutions provides ongoing computer support for a wide range of departments throughout Johns Hopkins University and Medicine. These services are provided on a fee-for-service basis and are commonly referred to as “LAN Services.”  As of January 2017, the team provides support for over 25,000 workstations across more than 200 departments. Examples of services provided include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assignment of a specific LAN Administrator or Desktop Technician for each supported department/area
  • After-hours on-call support for priority issues affecting patient care
  • Assistance with technical project planning
  • Purchase guidance, installation, and configuration of PCs, Macs and mobile devices
  • Access to individual file space starting at 25 GB (with daily backups)
  • Shared file space for departments and workgroups starting at 100 GB (with daily backups) available via a charge-back model
  • Automated software distribution for more than 150 applications
  • Coordination of warranty repair services
  • Installation of Enterprise applications and operating system updates
  • Protection against viruses and malware
  • IT consulting for any departmental IT project, including vendor liaison
