A Johns Hopkins research team is using IT@JH high-performance computing (HPC) resources for analyzing high-resolution molecular imagery to study cerebellar ataxia, a condition that impairs motor control. HPC resources process data and perform calculations at high speeds. Dr. Ed Twomey and team are using cryogenic electron microscopy (cryoEM) to check brain receptors for dysfunction that leads to disease-related mutations. The high-resolution images obtained with cryoEM are processed with the IT@JH DISCOVERY HPC. This cryoEM technology creates a huge data demand that individual labs cannot manage on their own.
