Sara Murray, MD, MAS, will join Johns Hopkins Medicine on June 29 as vice president, enterprise chief medical informatics & AI officer. The expanded executive role builds on the position established by Dr. Peter Greene before his recent retirement and will provide strategic direction for clinical information technology and AI initiatives across the School of Medicine and Johns Hopkins Health System.

Dr. Murray joins Johns Hopkins from the University of California, San Francisco, where she served as vice president and chief health AI officer, professor of clinical medicine, and associate chief of the Division of Clinical Informatics and Digital Transformation. At UCSF, she led the development of health AI governance processes and, in partnership with research leadership, built infrastructure to support research informatics and AI implementation across the health system.

She has also contributed to national collaboratives advancing best practices for the safe and scalable deployment of AI in healthcare, advised policymakers on the responsible use of AI in clinical settings, and led informatics and data science initiatives that resulted in high-impact publications. She brings strong relationships with leading technology companies and a vision for responsibly applying new technology in healthcare.

In her new role, Dr. Murray will spearhead the integration of safe and effective AI to enhance patient care, optimize clinical workflows, and advance research and innovation. Her clinical background continues to drive a commitment to patient-centered care as these technologies are integrated into the clinical environment.
