Prodensity, the mobile app that helped Johns Hopkins faculty, staff, and students return safely to campus during the COVID-19 pandemic, was shut down in late May. Prodensity allowed users to take a daily COVID Health Check, check into and out of monitored spaces to follow density requirements, track required asymptomatic COVID testing, and also included flu and COVID vaccine compliance tracking.

Prodensity was released in June 2020 and downloaded 45,044 times across all stores:

  • 36,779 total downloads on the Apple App Store
  • 8,265 Google store downloads

During the app’s active use, there were:

  • 300,050 total check-ins
  • 3,687 total unique user check-ins

The app was designed and developed in record time by the Johns Hopkins Technology Innovation Center and University Information Systems teams. Now that the COVID-19 pandemic’s restrictions have been lifted, Johns Hopkins leadership determined the app had reached the end of its useful life and requested its removal from the app stores effective May 25, 2023.
