Copilot in Word to Generate Text

Anne Albinak

Director of Research Administration Operations

Whiting School of Engineering

Problem

Anne needed to provide an abstract for an upcoming conference presentation. She had not completed her presentation yet, so couldn’t use it as a reference for creating a summarizing abstract.

How Copilot for M365 Helped

Copilot provided an abstract based on a title and a few key words.

Tips

How to use this type of solution

If you need to prepare a written summary but are lacking time or don’t quite have all the details compiled yet, you can get Copilot to generate text for you.

When writing the prompt

  • Ask specifically for what you need
  • Request a simple output from Copilot

The prompt that was most successful for this problem

“I’d like a summary abstract for a research administration conference presentation with the title of “Who Says Yes? Who Says No? Who Do I Ask? Where Do I Go?: Navigating Departmental, Divisional, Central, and Sponsor Approvals.”

Impact

Copilot came up with three short abstracts. Anne used text from two of the three, did minor editing, and submitted her abstract to the conference committee.
