
Rich Mendola currently serves as the Enterprise Chief Information Officer for Johns Hopkins University and Johns Hopkins Medicine, with responsibility for enterprise-wide strategic and operational oversight of information technology systems and infrastructure, as well as being the primary thought leader for all IT-related matters at Johns Hopkins.
Prior to joining Johns Hopkins in March 2023, Rich served as the Enterprise Chief Information Officer at Emory for nearly 18 years. While at Emory, he consolidated the major IT functions across the University and Emory Healthcare and created new units to better support research, cybersecurity, digital scholarship, and cloud computing.
Rich began his academic career as a faculty member in the health sciences at the University of Connecticut’s Health Science Center. He served in a variety of healthcare, academic and administrative leadership roles at the University of Connecticut and the University of Illinois before joining Emory.
He holds a BS degree from the University of Pittsburgh, master’s and PhD degrees in clinical psychology, and an MBA from the University of Connecticut.
Rich loves finding synergies in large organizations, and building and empowering world-class teams who contribute to advancing the state of higher education and healthcare. His hobbies include photography, golf, and travel.
