Janet Rathod, a senior information security leader with over two decades of experience in leading enterprise-wide security teams in the public and private sector, joined IT@JH this month as vice president and chief information security officer (CISO) for Johns Hopkins University and Medicine. She reports to Rich Mendola, vice president and chief information officer, and will also work closely with senior security colleagues across the institution.
Rich Mendola said, “I am so excited that Janet joined Johns Hopkins as our next CISO. Janet brings experience and perspectives that are incredibly well suited to the incessant cybersecurity threats we face in higher education and healthcare.”
Janet drives positive change, fosters a culture of excellence, and is recognized as an opportunity-maker who continuously sets a bold direction. “Joining the Johns Hopkins community as the CISO is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” Rathod said. “I look forward to working with my new colleagues to safeguard the enterprise and contribute to its ongoing success in education, healthcare, and research.”
Janet succeeds Darren Lacey, who served as IT@JH’s chief information security officer and director of IT Compliance for over 21 years, including the past seven-plus years as vice president of IT for Johns Hopkins University and Johns Hopkins Health System. Darren has also served as a mentor, advisor, provocateur, software engineer, raconteur, data scientist, and consultant to many. His sharp intellect, quick wit, and offbeat sense of humor will be missed. Darren is switching roles and heading to the Applied Physics Laboratory, where he has been named chief engineer for cybersecurity in the Information Technology Services Department.
